ARC awarded grants to produce a documentary reflecting on Malta's LGBTIQ history and activism.

Following an eye-opening #LGBTHistoryMonth during the month of February, Allied Rainbow Communities, organisers of Malta Pride, have were been awarded grants through the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme managed by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector on behalf of Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sports and Voluntary Organisations within the Ministry for Inclusion and Social Wellbeing to produce a documentary that is a first for Malta.

On 3rd March, project leader from ARC, Nicholas Bugeja attended the Grant Award ceremony in the presence of other beneficiaries hosted by the MCVS with speeches from Mr Mauro Parascandalo as its Head and Hon Clifton Grima, MP as the responsible Parliamentary Secretary.

'Equality from the Heart', which is the working title of this documentary, will aim to capture and delve further into LGBTIQ+ history in Malta. History books have often overlooked queer characters and spaces of Malta except for a very few. The short film will bring together voices from over 50 Years of LGBTIQ+ life, rights movement and to explore queer activism on the Island. The Documentary will bring together LGBTIQ+ individuals, experienced and new as well as look at the movement for LGBTIQ+ equality before and after the removal of sodomy law in 1973. It will also explore how today's activism stands on the shoulders of activists of the past.
