The Malta Gay Rights Movement (MGRM) is taking part in a European research project on crime and online speech that was motivated by hate against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) persons and/or persons perceived to be LGBT.
This project is being conducted, with the support of the European Commission, in 10 EU Member-States: Belgium, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom. The focus of this research project is hate crimes and online hate speech, maybe you have heard this expression before. According to the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, hate crime is defined as a criminal offence motivated by intolerance towards the victim, who is targeted for prejudices against his/her condition, for example, ethnic origins, religious beliefs, ideology, poverty, sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
